Children and young people are amongst the most vulnerable in our society when it comes to the impact of adverse circumstances on their lives. Adverse childhood experience can have impacts on the development and mental health of children and young people that may persist into adulthood and affect their life chances. These might be personal circumstances such as the death or divorce of parents or domestic violence, for example, or national and international disasters. Children and young people affected by such events need support to strengthen their resilience and empower them to overcome their fears and the challenges they face.  

Who is this course for?
Over 19s who wish to gain employment in the health and social care sector, or are already employed and are looking to upskill.

Course aims
This workshop will explore how and why trauma affects the brain and simple strategies we can use to ensure those who have experienced trauma have positive interactions with our services. By putting these ideas into practice, you will be helping Plymouth to meet its goal of becoming a trauma informed city. What you will learn:- -Exploring childhood and family structures; - Introduction to adverse childhood experiences; -Developing strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences.

How will this course be delivered?
All courses are exclusively delivered via an online learning, self-study programme.

Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
There is a considerable amount of work for you to do in your own time for this qualification. Please allow a minimum of 2hours per week for this.

How will I know I'm making progress?
You will receive regular feedback from an assessor following completion and submission of individual units. You will also receive weekly updates of progress as well as any outstanding items.

What will I need for the course?
Please bring a pen and notepad to each session.
