This qualification is designed for learners who wish to undertake an introductory course in graphic design
and obtain underpinning knowledge of graphic design processes and principles by:
enable learners to develop basic graphic design skills
provide learners with an underpinning knowledge of graphic design processes and principles
enable learners to use materials, tools and equipment competently and safely

Who is this course for?
Learners who are over 19 years of age and possess an interest in graphic design.
Entry requirements
It would benefical to possess basic ICT skills. Learners may be required to undertake an initial assessment prior to the course.
Course aims
Achieving this qualification will:
enable learners to develop basic graphic design skills
provide learners with an underpinning knowledge of graphic design processes and principles
enable learners to use materials, tools and equipment competently and safely.
enable learners to develop a portfolio of design work.

Level 1 Award in Graphic Design (NCFE)
How will the course be delivered?
This is a practical course and the sessions will include tutor-led demonstrations, learner-led group activities, instruction and repetition. These will form part of the delivery together with one-to-one support as required.
How will I know I'm making progress?
During the first session you will complete an informal initial assessment and make an individual learning plan (ILP), to identify your targets for the course, with your tutor. You will review your (ILP) with your tutor who will give you written feedback and support to achieve your targets. Informal assessments will be integrated into sessions with group and one to one feedback being given regularly. This will enable you to identify any additional support requirements or areas to practise and revise and prepare for the assessments.
Will I need to study or practise outside the classroom?
Yes researching, development of ideas and complying a portfolio of evidence is required to achieve the qualification.
What will I need to take to the course?
Please bring a notepad, and pen to each session. You may wish to bring a file for any handouts. A laptop with internet access is required for completion of coursework and home learning outside of the classroom. Please note that food and drink are not permitted to be consumed in the classroom. You may bring a bottle of water with a lid with you if required.
