Course Intent
The aim of this course is to give all learners an overview of knowledge and skills they need to understand and apply when looking at Slicing for 3D Printing.
Wherever possible we will put the weekly theory learning into practice as we begin the process of ‘creating’ and printing our own 3D designs.
The course will cover the following areas:
Introduction to 3D printing: What is 3D printing, how does it work, and why is slicing an important step in the process.
Understanding STL files: Explanation of the STL file format, what it is, and how it's used in 3D printing.
The role of slicers: Introduction to slicers, what they do, and why they're needed. Overview of different slicer software options.
Setting up your slicer: How to select the right slicer for your needs, installation and setup, and connecting it to your 3D printer.
Slice settings: Overview of the different slicing settings, such as layer height, infill, and support structures, and how to adjust them for optimal results.
Printing preparation: How to prepare your 3D model for printing, including scaling, orientation, and adding support structures.
Generating G-code: Explanation of G-code and how it's used in 3D printing, and how to generate G-code using your slicer.
Printing: The final step, how to initiate a print and monitor progress, troubleshooting common issues and making adjustments as needed.
Lighting and rendering: Understanding lighting and rendering in Blender, how to set up lights and cameras, and how to create a final rendered image of your model.
